Maurizio D’Agostini: “The King and Queen”

Only a violinist who has perfectly mastered his instrument and music can allow himself to vary from the set music .Violino

At the same time, I believe that,  also in the field of painting and sculpture, the geniality and the originality of the artist, the variation in form and colour, will be best achieved only if the artist has fully mastered the art of sketching, painting and  the use of colour, in the case of a three-dimensional object, its development in space.

I greatly admire the art of  Maurizio D’ Agostini,   primarily because he meets all of the above requirements.

At the base of his work is the expertise of a master sculptor who handles the graver like the bow of a violin,   the mastery of design, of hands born to wield a brush or shape clay , a keen eye to capture every minimum nuance and capable of breathing life into inanimate materials, exploiting the characteristics of the materials utilised.

Il CosmoHis inspiration derives from a passion for the stars and the cosmos, from the beauty of the raw materials, stone,  clay , bronze , from his sensitivity to feminine charm , from his  passion for poetry and music….

From these and not only from these elements, forms come to life with soft and sensual curves, where often  man, dreams and nature come together in an inextricable manner with an intensity expressed with  spontaneity, passion and mysticism at the same time ….

The works of Maurizio are easily identifiable, making him an artist who, although in continual evolution, always remains unmistakable..

The King and Queen are two large hieratic figures whose enigmatic bodies are wrapped in a single large cloak with soft vertical folds .

This sculpture is particularly sensitive to variations in light, with the chiselled draping of the cloakBulino creating ever-changing shadows and reflections give the impression of mysterious  movement of the figures.

The use of bronze with its unique patina contribute to give a sense of strength to these elongated figures with slender and voluptuous necks and the piece expresses both sensuality and elegance in a perfect balance between imagination, matter and sentiment .

Maurizio D’ Agostini, sculptor and painter, was born in Vicenza in 1946 and, after artistic experience in various countries , lives and works in a small village at the foot of the Berici hills. His work is can be found all over  the world.
