Michael Wolgemut
Born in Nuremberg in 1434, Michael Wolgemut work for all life in his hometown as a painter, engraver and typographer.
It has, among others, as an apprentice in his studio Albrecht Duerer who dedicated to him the famous portrait painted in 1516
From his printing come out publications of all kinds which often illustrations of the master are “watercolored” by his students.

Artist of transition between the Middle Ages and Renaissance, his painting sometimes gets carried by a miniaturization precise and almost “Flemish”, sometimes by a naive simplification of images and facts.
ย The lack of depth and perspective is so obvious that it seems the result of a religious respect for the tradition of medieval miniature.
Even in his early portraits affects the lack of importance of the figures …
ย … However Wolgemut loves the landscape and places it gradually more and more often in his portraits …

… By giving the painting as a whole a certain depth which is lacking in the faces of the characters or in the composition of the figures.
He died in Nuremberg in 1519.
