Vincent Van Gogh

Born March 30, 1853, Flemish painter well-author of 864 paintings and more than a thousand drawings , not counting the numerous drafts unfinished.

  As ingenious but misunderstood in life, Van Gogh profoundly influenced the art of the twentieth century.

Van Gogh began drawing as a child, despite the constant pressure of his father, a Protestant pastor who continued to teach him the strict rules.

  He started painting rather late, at the age of thirty years, making many of his best known works in the last two years of life.

  His subjects consisted of portraits,

landscapes, still lifes of flowers, painted with cypresses, representation of wheat fields and sunflowers.

Having spent many years suffering from frequent mental disorders, died at age 37

for a gunshot wound, probably self-inflicted.
